Cognitive Planning in Motivational Interviewing

This paper presents a cognitive planning model that implements the principles of motivational interviewing, a counseling method used to guide people in adopting behavior changes. This planning system is part of a wider dialogical architecture of artificial counseling agent. We present the formal model and planning problem. We show how it can be used to plan for dialogue in the architecture. We illustrate its functionalities on a simple example.
